Capsulitis of the shoulder joint: how to treat the disease
Capsulitis of the shoulder joint has other names — adhesive arthritis or frozen shoulder. This is a pretty serious disease that can cause disability. Capsulitis develops when mechanical damage (tear) or inflammation of the capsule of the shoulder joint, leading to reduction of the articular cavity and are often full immobilization of the joint. This disease is also called «frozen shoulder».
Adhesive arthritis: symptoms and causes
Still unclear causes of this disease and the symptoms need to be studied. In some cases, the inflammation can disappear over time, though, and lasts for months. Experts identify the following main symptoms of the disease:
- reduction of the articular cavity in 4-6 times compared to normal condition;
- stiffness of the shoulder joint;
- pain when you move the hands upward and inward, causing limited range of motion of the joint.
The following causes increase the risk of developing the disease:
- various disorders of the shoulder joint capsule;
- a shoulder injury and the operations on it, moved in the past (inflammation, torn ligaments, etc.);
- damage to the cervical spine;
- the presence of diabetes and use of insulin to treat;
- disruption of the circulatory system;
- the presence of cancer.
The consequence of various injuries of the shoulder can become inflamed joint. Patients who have had a tear of the shoulder ligaments, is shown therapeutic exercise. For quick recovery after surgery need to strictly comply with all medical recommendations.
In patients with diabetes, the risk of developing capsulitis is increased by 10-35%. A high percentage of lesions of this disease are patients treated with insulin. Moreover, in these patients, adhesive capsulitis often becomes acute.
The types capsulitis and its treatment
There are such types of adhesive arthritis of the shoulder joint:
- post traumatic;
Posttraumatic adhesive capsulitis can develop after trauma of the shoulder: fractures, tendon ruptures of the rotator cuff, inflammation of the joints. A successful operation does not guarantee that the disease does not manifest itself in the future. This disease can affect not only the joint and the axillary tissue, and pain can radiate in the heart.
Idiopathic arthritis is often diagnosed in women aged 40 to 60 years. The disease is often detected at the time of patient complaints on the violation of work of bodies of blood circulation or breath. Symptoms idiopathic arthritis can manifest with a variety of disorders of the nervous system, cancer and diseases of the cervical spine.
Reducing the range of motion of the shoulder joint indicates that the person is sick. The development of the disease the rotation of the shoulder is given increasingly difficult, it becomes difficult to have injured arm behind his back. This is a clear symptoms capsulata, and to confirm the diagnosis is performed arthrography. In the picture you can see inflammation or rotator cuff, reducing the articular cavity.
In addition to surgery, adhesive capsulitis treated by assigning physical therapy. It will not help if there is a rupture of the rotator cuff, but in all other cases, is an effective means to reduce and even eliminate pain, start the recovery process. A comprehensive approach to treatment includes physical exercises that must be done in a few weeks, physical therapy and taking anti-inflammatory drugs.
Medical gymnastics is appointed in order to relieve pain, restore the amplitude of rotation of the shoulder joint, improve muscle tone.
Exercise for the prevention of disease
Exercise 1. Sitting or standing, bind hands into the lock. Make a circular motion, creating a «wave». First in one, then in the opposite direction.
Exercise 2. Sitting on a chair, put your hands down. Relax your shoulders. First right shoulder move up and back (anti-clockwise) will lower the shoulder. Then the left shoulder, do the same movement up and back (clockwise). Repeat these movements for 30 seconds. Then change the direction.
Exercise 3. Sit in a chair, hands in the castle. Try to raise your arms over your head and gently stretch. If you perform this exercise without pain fails, pull hands away from themselves, while slightly shift your shoulders back, helping them and reducing the load on them. During the exercise, move the shoulders to the center.
Exercise 4. With straight arms, relaxed, at the same time get turned back. Your chest is forward, shoulders back. The blades are connected. Then arms and shoulders go forward. Choose a convenient amplitude.
Exercise 5. Alternately raising the hands with the subsequent straightening of the back and shoulder joints. Raise first one hand, brush at the same time relaxed, looking down. Then lift the second hand. Be careful to avoid pain. Exercises aimed at training of muscles.
Exercise 6. The rotation of the shoulders. Big fingers touch the collarbone or chest. Arms bent at the elbows. Start making synchronous circular motion. Include the whole body. Start with small amplitudes.
Exercise 7. Thumbs touch your chest. Lifting movements of the feed elbow of one hand forward and slightly to the side. A little pull. Repeat with the other hand. You should feel how tense the muscles of the shoulder blades and the shoulder joint.
Exercise 8. Sit back, press one arm bent at the elbow, to the chest. With your free hand, grasp the elbow that pressed against the trunk of the body. Gently pull up. Feel how your muscles work. If you have had a rupture of the capsule of the shoulder belt, you should perform this exercise very carefully, before the first pain.
Exercise 9. Sitting on a chair, place your hands on your hips. Shoulders, make circular movements for 1 minute forward and then back. Shoulders relaxed. Movement should be performed slowly. If you feel pain, reduce the amplitude.
Exercise 10. Lie on your back, arms straightened at the elbows, palms face up. On the inhale lift one arm up to the height to which you can. Lock the arm in this position for 10 seconds. Exhale and repeat with the other hand. Make at least 5 approaches.
